I’ve been sitting at my dining room table for two days straight working on my materials for an August workshop Book Reviews: How to Get Them & What to Do With Them.  My confession: I am two days past my self imposed deadline of getting the draft to my beta readers.  Alternating between productive writing and pacing the apartment beating myself up about being behind, I decided I needed a break.  I had been sitting at the computer since 4 a.m. this morning, it was now 8 a.m.

I went to Kroger to get some milk. I can’t ever go there and get just one thing.  Can you? In my fragile emotional state Doritos and bean dip appeared in my cart. A package of bacon kept them company. That voice in my head said I really should head over to the produce department and try to get something healthy.  Salad and some mini carrots would be lunch when it rolled around.  I was heading to the cashiers when I spied some flowers with that nice mark down sticker.  You know the one, “I’m half price, but you have to take advantage of me now.”Closeup Flowers

I felt like these were just the ticket (and only $4.99).  I had actually been working hard.  Even though I was behind, I was chugging along at it, making big dents in the outline.  I was still going to be sitting at the dining room table the rest of Sunday, mucking with formatting and consistency edits.  Should I move this portion up with this other subtopic? It could go either place– which is the best place? Extra that’s seemed to sprinkle themselves through my work.  Searching and considering if each one deserved to be there would take a minute or two.

WorkspaceI felt something cheery at my workspace was what I needed.  As the hair color commercial says, “I’m worth it.”  So I’m sharing a picture of my bargain flowers and the workspace they are now occupying.

I’ll say goodbye and happy writing to all of you at your journals, pads of paper, tablets or computer screens.  Does anyone still use an actual typewriter?  I’m back to work.  I’m putting this bad boy to bed tonight come he## or high water.

  1. Sometimes it’s just the littlest things that brings the joy back into our lives. Be it flowers or Doritos and bean dip (which I am now craving..thanks).
