Food Junkies

CoverAbout the Book by Vera Tarman & Phil Werdell & Read by Lisa Bunting

Is it possible to be addicted to food? When does indulging in ‘comfort’ food become substance abuse? Is it possible that there is more than a lack of will power at work when someone can’t stop eating? In Food Junkies, Vera Tarman and Phil Werdell explain what is – and isn’t – food addiction, tackling this complex and poorly understood problem through the stories of many survivors and from the perspectives of medical researchers/practitioners. They break down the science behind the research so that anyone can understand it, and take a fresh look at obesity, overeating, binge eating, anorexia and bulimia. For people struggling with these issues — and their families — recognizing the condition is the first step to gaining the kind of support and advice they need.

Food Junkies (finalist in the 2016 Voice Arts Awards) offers hope and guidance. Read by Lisa Bunting, according to one audible customer review, her “calming voice assists with decreasing the shame so often found with addiction and can open the listener up to actually hearing,” while another noted the audiobook version “brought the science to life in a different way than the book. It made it even more real as one can’t ‘skim’ or ‘rush’ through the life-changing content.”

The Can’t-idates

About the Book by Craig Tomashoff

CantidatesAvatar CoverI’m not a political person by nature. Most of the time, it seems the political world plays out more like a lame ‘70s sitcom with all its predictable characters and routine storylines. However, last spring, I got tired of hearing friends and family complain about the lack of exciting, innovative candidates for president. Everyone seemed ready to vote for “None Of the Above.” So, I decided to take a 10,000-mile road trip across America in May 2015 to meet several of the more than 1600 “real people” who are legit candidates for the presidency. Including a couple in New England.

The Can’t-idates is about dreamers — not all of whom are tin-foil hat crazy — who just want to fill a hole in their lives by running for president. And as I drove to meet them all, I realized a lot about not just my life but also about the country. If we could all take time to believe in what our parents always told us — “Someday you can grow up to be president” — maybe we wouldn’t be in the shape we’re in.

Book Launch Marketing

Book Launch Marketing by Theodore Roach

Reviewed by Felita Daniels/ 206 Pages / Additional Workbook Bonus

Covers and book titles are the first impression we have about what is contained inside a work. They are full of promise of what information, what type of adventure, or emotional journey is inside. Readers of non-fiction are usually looking to solve a problem. They are anxious and may be a little quick on the draw of jumping to conclusions- inferring the title promises their solution inside.

Book Launch Marketing CoverI admit, I fell into this category a bit. I saw “Book Launch” in big letters at the top. I hoped to find what steps I should take, what order, how much time I should allow for these steps. Do you book a tour before you have the cover art? When is the best time to use your free Kindle days if you are in that program, how far in advance do you email folks for reviews, etc. were the questions I hoped this book would answer.

But Book Launch wasn’t the whole title. “Marketing” is underneath the yellow box. The subtitle to the book “35 Easy Ways to Promote Your Book, Increase Sales, and become a Bestselling Self-Published Author” is the rest of the information given to what the content of this book holds. Click on the Table of Contents for a better understanding of the material and information. Here are the broadest listings, the chapter titles in each section will give you a further clue to the contents also.

Part One: Introduction to Marketing, Part Two: Prepare Your Book for Publishing, Part Three: Establish Your Brand, Part Four: Pre-Publish Marketing, Part Five: Launch Your Book, Part Six: Post-Launch Marketing, and finally Part Seven: Wrap Up indicate that the launch itself is not a majority of the book.

So, I didn’t get the actual steps to a book launch here. But there is a great deal of helpful information contained in this book. I have to say that, for me, I found the bonus material workbook to be the BEST part of this work. It asked prompting questions so that you could customize and determine better how this information applied to your personal book, your brand, and your audience.

If you have already been researching this topic for a year and have read more than 10 self-publishing books you might feel this work didn’t have enough nuts and bolts specifics for your taste. I would say that with the easy writing style and the emphasis of putting out a good product, this is an excellent overview book for the writers that are dipping their toe into the self-publishing arena.

P.S. if anyone can recommend a book to me that has the “steps” or a check list for a book launch send me an email, or post in the comments!

Review Etiquette with Bloggers
You want to get this marketing stuff out of the way and get back to writing the next book. It is tempting to get an email list of book bloggers and blast to everyone you can. One email out to 30,000 bloggers and reporters and done in the time it takes to hit the send button.
I can tell you from being on the bloggers end opening the emails requesting a review, this is not an effective method. Bloggers consider their site unique and spend many hours on content, computer geekiness, and growing their traffic. It is their baby, just like your novel is a part of who you are.
Improve your response rate to your review requests by personalizing your emails to the writers of the blog. For a blogger, getting a pitch for an erotica novel, when their review policy clearly states they don’t cover that genre is the fastest way to put a bad taste in their mouth. Not only do you not get a review out of it, you come off as unprofessional. It’s easy to tell yourself you don’t need that blogger anyway if that’s the case. What if next year you decide to try your hand at contemporary romance? You have just shot that potential relationship opportunity.

Interview with Natalie Kawai

Buried in our soul forever, there is a piece of us that has not as yet been activated. That piece is the lost consciousness, the missing link guiding us to wholeness. As human beings, we have sought wholeness and connection with each other in the best way we know how by mimicking and emulating Source as we understand it.

Unfortunately, we cannot find wholeness because we have been missing part of who we are. As a New Era dawns for humanity, we now have to complete the process by gaining the consciousness we lost when we first incarnated at the beginning of time.

Natalie Kawai has found the key to completing that process. In Conversations With Mother Goddess, she shares what she has learned through her dialogues with the Great Mother of Creation. Part explanation of humanity’s origins, and part conversation about how humanity can move into a new and complete future, this book will bend your mind in new and surprising ways, preparing it for the next step in your soul’s evolution.

Discover the part of you that you have always been yearning for, but never knew how to find. Join others in this exciting journey to restore harmony, creativity, and peace in all of us. Then prepare yourself to help bring about Heaven on Earth! It will happen if we all make the effort….

Conversations With Mother Goddess: Finding Everlasting Peace and Natural Radiance in Your Life

Natalie Kawai is a Spiritual Teacher and Guide. Born on the shores of Lake Geneva, Switzerland, she now lives in Hawaii. Clairaudient from birth, she has always been haunted by the mysteries of life, why we are here, and our role in the universe. Moved by her intense desire always to go deeper in understanding the whys of the whys, she found the voice of the Great Mother of Creation twelve years ago. Since then, she has studied relentlessly with the Supreme Being in a constant and intense dialogue. This practice led her to understand why a gulf still exists between our divinity and our humanity. Under the Great Mother of Creationsguidance, she founded LST™—Light Speed Transmutationa radical system to restore our lost consciousness and drive out the last part of our ego.

Who is the Goddess that you are having a conversation with?

The One Goddess, Mother of Creation, the supreme energy that created everything and has been denied for ever (for purpose of evolution)

Every day I see people on the verge of anger. They seem to want an excuse to be mad and someone or something. Why do you think this is? And how can we heal ourselves of it?

Great question! Anger is an emotional signal coming from a piece within that has never been recognized, thus re-owned – Anger is not understood and is dispatched out with an excuse: blame – at someone or something. Since parts of ourselves are still in limbo, we feel victimized because we don’t understand why we are in limbo, that’s what triggers anger (why am I here and why do I feel lost?).  We unconsciously expect that someone else (divinity) fix that, which justifies the projection of anger onto something or someone, in order to blame to feel better.  That is a spinning circle.

The solution is to take responsibility which means that in order to heal the anger properly, we have to honor it as a signal and see where this signal is pointing at. Then recover the piece of our consciousness that has been lost and was crying to us through anger.

All our negative emotions have one origin: the loss of the Will, the original essence of the Mother denied at time of creation. When we recover that part of the essence, Source energy will flow again.

What is the first step in your book?

The step is the end of the denial.  Terminate duality, the gap between humanity and divinity by recovering all our lost pieces. Our negative emotions have to be seen for what they are instead of been covered by positive thinking or positive attitude, or any other tweak which keeps the denial going. When we stop denying our emotions or projecting them outward onto people or circumstances, we start owning ourselves fully, and that is the purpose: the entire realization of self to achieve our ultimate purpose: Wholeness – We can also call that stage Heaven on Earth.

How long did it take to write the book & what was the hardest part of the process?

It took me one year to write it and then 6 months for editing and design. The plethora of information I had gathered over the years of my  communication with Great Mother was challenging to organize in a continuum from point A to point Z – that was the hardest part of the process for the mainly right brain kind of gal I am!

How did the cover come about?

This picture came to me as the total incarnation, Earth link of what I had to say:  Wholeness – the W of whole is missing – W of woman! There is a hole in the Whole! The energy of the Great Mother of Creation has to be renown if we want to progress to the next step in our evolution: the New Era. Up until now we have been mimicking Source, it is time to Be it fully!

Profit in Plain Sight

Author Anne C. Graham / Reviewed by Felita Daniels / 313 Pages (Hardback)

This non-fiction book is organized well. The graphic representation of some of the concepts reminded me of Stephen Covey’s work. Some can take in theories better visually. There are also action steps at the end of each chapter. This book wasn’t meant to just be read and put up on the shelf. It’s a game plan. There are also “Five Minutes, Five Questions” sections that help you to customize how the material relates to your unique organization and situations. I do believe many can benefit from reading and enacting some of these processes.

My only disappointment was in some of the longer sentences she uses at times. You may not mind these at all. She also capitalizes lots of phrases designating her concepts or business and accounting phrases. Yet there wasn’t a glossary defining them if you needed to refresh yourself when encountering them past the first usage. There was an index, so you could double back with this tool. Here is an example:

“Next I’ll share the innovative three-part Customer Profitability Diamond that reveals the significant profit opportunities already in your business and exposes the profit leaks that you need to close, without having to make the large investments in people or capital that typically drive growth at the expense of profits.”

I can make it through the whole sentence, but only if I take a deep breath first. The author also offers value-add resources at her website. So, if you are looking to improve your business or corporation, check out her Five Principled Paths to Passion, Profit, and Growth.

Book Description:

  1. 84% of business owners and CEOs surveyed score a C, D or F on the Return on People Benchmark – they can’t even give every employee a decent raise, let alone hire, invest in facilities, equipment or technology, or expand into new markets!
  2. 40% companies who increase their revenues in a given year will actually decrease their profits… and there’s a better way to increase both.
  3. 96% of companies will put their greater goals on hold this year with one simple phrase: We don’t have the budget for that.

Imagine if leaders were able to break free of their profit constraints, stop being victims of exchange rates and oil prices, and be in control of earning all the profit they need to fund the growth they want.

Savvy entrepreneurs would never start a new business without a Business Plan.  Experienced executives would never try to lead their business without a Strategic Plan. But almost every manager confesses that they don’t have a Profit Plan beyond their P&L, and that means that profit becomes the leftovers between disappointing revenues and higher-than-expected costs.

Profit in Plain Sight offers the Profit Plan that’s missing, with a step-by-step roadmap that enables these busy leaders to grasp the big picture, and to implement solutions in less time per week than they are spending on email per day.

Unlike many  business books, Profit in Plain Sight gives readers access to the “hows”, not just the “shoulds”, with downloadable training resources and action plans  at the end of every chapter, plus regular opportunities for the reader to reflect on how their thinking is changing and growing.

This book finally helps leaders who are passionate about their business have all the profit they need to fund the growth they want, with tough questions to start changing the conversations in everyday management meetings, with practical, actionable techniques that are quite different from conventional cost-cutting approaches or the all-too-dangerous “increase revenues at all costs” techniques.  Instead, Profit In Plain Sight offers take-it-to-the-bank results.

About The Author

Anne C. Graham is on a mission to help 5 million business leaders and their teams double their profit per employee – or more in less than one year, in less time than they’re spending on email.  Drawing on over 25 years of deep profit and growth expertise from her “in the trenches” and executive experiences with Fortune 500 companies and smaller firms, she closes the all-too-frequent gap between the good intentions vs. year-end results.  The solution is the roadmap she wishes she’d had – a Profit Plan that transforms “we don’t have the budget for that!” into a “YES!” to funding every greater dream and goal for their business as they create prosperity for their company, their employees, their customers, and their communities.

As a best-selling author, international speaker, and accelerator, Anne inspires thousands of business leaders each year to Profit… On Purpose by moving past conventional thinking to discover Profit In Plain Sight.  Audiences and clients love Anne’s fun and interactive approach based on value to the customer, NOT accounting, and her ability to create profound AHA! Moments so that participants leave with a new perspective of their possibilities plus practical actions they can implement for immediate impact.  Anne is the Managing Director of the Legendary Value Institute, a popular faculty member in an award-winning MBA program, and a passionate boater on west coast of British Columbia.
