The Lei Crime Series is: Hawaii is palm trees, black sand and blue water—but for policewoman Lei Texeira, there’s a dark side to paradise. Lei has overcome a scarred past to make a life for herself as a cop, but often the cases she works activate wounds and complications from her tangled family history. Lei is affected deeply by her cases even as she solves them with persistence, obsession, and intuition. She falls in love with Michael Stevens, the charismatic detective she works with, and they make a life solving crime in contemporary Hawaii with all its beauty and deadliness.

Characters often find themselves in situations they aren’t sure they can get themselves out of. When was the last time you found yourself in a situation that was hard to get out of and what did you do?

    • Great question Mai!

I had to really think on this one. My mind immediately went to a dangerous scenario since I write suspense, but that’s not the case in real life. On a daily basis, life as a writer is not quite so adventurous for me. And that’s a good thing! I prefer the danger in my fiction.

The last difficult situation for me involved an elderly neighbour. She accused me of something I did not do, and trying to defend and explain myself was fruitless. She was convinced I had swept wood chips in our joint driveway over to her side of the house. I finally walked away with her yelling at my back.

Later on, she realized it was a squirrel that had climbed on her roof. It chewed away at her unprotected, wooden soffits. She apologized and I accepted her apology. End of story. For me, it’s always best to solve problems with civil dialogue, but when that fails … I walk away. Sometimes the squirrel gets away with it. In this case, it didn’t 😉

      Have a great day, Mai,
      eden
