About the Book by Allison Morse
Some people in her small rural community think Ellen Hamilton, the business savvy daughter of the town’s largest employer, is too big for her britches. After all it’s the 1950s and women have no place in running corporations. But when the company is threatened with takeover by John Adair, the man who broke her heart and “betrayed” her family business years ago, she’s determined to stop at nothing to win. The artwork on the cover reminded me of my Midge Barbie doll and clothes from when I was a young girl. The setting is in the 50’s. I wasn’t sure if I would find this time period frustrating to read about- how women were held back so-to-speak. It added a slight wrinkle to Ellen Hamilton’s plans. I shouldn’t have worried.
What I liked most about this book is that while it is promoted as a romance, the corporate story line is quite strong. The family dynamics and supporting characters also contribute enormously to the story. So I didn’t feel like I was reading a romance just focusing on two main characters. This was an excellent balance for me. Really, doesn’t romance happen while life is going on around you? I think Allison Morse is an author to keep an eye on.
